Lithuania

2 videos • 8 views • by One Way Ticket The Lithuania Capital of Vilnius is a quirky city that is often underrated. It boasts a magic tile in Cathedral Square and Užupis, a tiny Bohemian republic. In this vlog, we show you why Vilnius should be on your radar! Our walking tour of Vilnius started out by visiting the Gate of Dawn. It's a Catholic pilgrimage site where there is an icon of the Virgin Mary. The Old Town of Vilnius is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We found Cafe Montemarte not too far from the Gate of Dawn. The cafe is located in the heart of the Old Town. After breakfast, we walked to the Vilnius Town Hall. The Vilnius Town Hall is the starting point for many Vilnius walking tours. After leaving the Town Hall Square, we made our way to the pub Leičiai. At Leičiai, we tried Lithuanian mead and the local beer. After leaving the pub, we headed toward the Office of the President of the Republic of Lithuania. The Lithuanian Presidential Palace had guards in medieval armor. After leaving the palace, we continued walking until we reached Cathedral Square. Cathedral Square is the main square of Vilnius’ Old Town and home to the Vilnius Cathedral. There’s a tile on the ground that is claimed to grant wishes. It is also the ending spot of the Baltic Chain. Our next stop was St. Anne's Church. St. Anne's Church is a beautiful Gothic church. Not too far from the church is Literary Street (Literatų gatvė). Literary Street is filled with decorative plaques to recognize Lithuanian writers. It was now lunch time, so we walked to Lokys. Lokys is the oldest family run restaurant in Vilnius. It serves traditional Lithuanian cuisine. We tried Lithuanian cold beetroot soup called Šaltibarščiai. We also tried the boiled potato zeppelins. We recommend it if you want to try Lithuanian food. The next day we visited the Republic of Užupis. It is a micro nation that even has its own president, flag, and constitution. It is definitely worth visiting Užupis if you are in Vilnius. We really enjoyed our time in the Lithuania capital of Vilnius! We had an epic time road tripping through the Baltic capitals of Vilnius, Riga, and Tallinn. Our week long Baltic road trip includes our favorite sights in each of the three Baltic countries of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. We also give our recommendations for must try Baltic food. After making our way from Poland, we entered our first Baltic country Lithuania to explore its capital of Vilnius. The Old Town of Vilnius is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to our first must see sight, Cathedral Square. We also recommend visiting Literary Street, and the Republic of Užupis. Our recommendations for Lithuanian cuisine are Leičiai for Vilnius mead and local beer, and Loky's for Lithuanian beetroot soup and boiled potato zeppelins.
