In this mini series we undertake epic journeys by boats in some of the toughest environments on earth. During our journeys we look at how the technology of boat travel has been adapted to survive, trade with and connect isolated communities. Travel 250 miles in 3 days through the remote Amazonian rainforest, on a trip concluding with pink river dolphins. Meanwhile in the Arctic, an 18-strong crew travels hundreds of miles with with a gruelling daily fishing routine, until the local ears teach them a lesson. Also covered within these stand-alone episodes: a steamship along the Nile in Egypt, the Great Lakes, and authentic travel across Tanzania and the Philippines.
