Each of these are examples of operational
systems where “you” are the “job” / “item” being processed. Similar to a
production-line in a factory, the operations managers seek to maximise
throughput as they process you through a string of sequential processes.
But where to focus your efforts if
you want to improve this system (be it factory or theme park), increase
capacity through operational “improvement” without simply spending millions
more on buying a new facility.
How do we identify and focus on the
system’s “Constraint” in order to have a dramatic impact on the whole system?
