Over the last 14 years I have produced nearly 1500 videos on YouTube, and I am thinking of re-making videos of some of the songs I have already recorded.

There are a number of reasons for this.
. I have difficulty finding new tunes to play.
. Making videos of tunes that are new to me is much harder than playing a song that I already know, as I have to learn the tune first. (As I play by ear)
. Making two videos each week limits the time I have to play songs I love playing.
. Videos I made years ago don't get notified to followers in the same way as newly published videos, so they don't get the visibility they deserve.

So, how do you feel about me re-doing some songs?
If I do this, what song would you like to hear again?

For those interested in listening to my music on their mobiles, I have added a number of Podcasts to YouTube. These are available on the "YouTube Music" app, and are based on some of my play lists.
They can be accessed in "YouTube Music" by going into PODCASTS and searching for Dave Monk.

All of the "Shorts" that I post (1 minute, phone shaped videos), are snippets, taken from existing, full length videos of the tune.
Each "Short" video Description contains a link to the full, original video.
So, if you want to watch and listen to the whole song, you can.

"YouTube Shorts" is a new way of posting YouTube content, much like YouTube's primary service but with a focus on vertical videos, with an aspect ratio similar to a mobile phone. These have a maximum length of 60 seconds.
Even with the time and shape limitation, I felt that they could be a promotion tool for my full videos.
I was hoping to place a link on them, linking back to the original full video.
The idea was that if the viewer likes what they see and hear, they will click the link to the full video, which they can then watch, in full, at their leisure. Unfortunately I'm having trouble creating this link in the main screen and for the moment, I have added the link in the description.
I'm not sure whether to continue with Shorts or not.
On the one hand I feel that they could promote my original videos, and reach a wider audience, increasing my overall views,
but on the other hand I feel the limitations of shorts may detract from my main videos.
So, I need your help. What is your opinion?

Somebody is impersonating me with a site called
" Text me on Telegram oldguitarmonkey". saying..,.

"Hello, Congratulations you've been selected as a great winner.
Quickly send a direct message above to acknowledge your prize. Thank you❤️"

Please know that this is not me. I have reported the channel to YouTube and they have taken the channel down for impersonation.
However, a new channel with the same name except with an added "1" on the end. They are sending out the same message.

I have reported this channel as well, but it hasn't been taken down yet.

KEEP SAFE OUT THERE!

I am really enjoying the Black Squier Special.
Here's what happened with it.
I didn't know if it would be any good, but it looked amazing.
It played very well with a good action but had a few problems. The tremolo arm was floppy and too long for me and I'm not a fan of PTFE tape.
The tremolo arm wouldn't grip with a spring inserted in the hole as the thread on the arm was worn.
So I replaced and shortened the tremolo arm and the spring worked well with the new arm.
The tone sounded rich and solid, but I couldn't balance the volume between the top strings and the lower strings. The lower strings were much higher volume. Adjusting the pickup heights did next to nothing to level the volume out. So I decided to replace all the workings.
I bought a loaded black scratch plate that cost next to nothing, (as it turned out, from China, even though the trading company was based in Basildon), so it took over a week to arrive.
When I fitted it I noticed that there was already another set of fixing holes in the guitar, so the original workings had obviously already been replaced.
Anyway, I replaced the whole caboodle as a unit and fitted a new set of D'Addario Nickel Wound strings. (Regular Light Gauge (10's - 1-46's, currently my goto strings). I then changed the knobs for a brighter set.
The tone sounds very similar to the original tone, although the pickups are slightly less powerful than the originals, but all strings were balanced in volume, once I had set the pickup heights.

Verdict.
It's very comfortable to play with a modern, fast, thin neck and a low action. It has no buzzing and no dodgy frets.
At around £150 including all the mods, I think it sounds great and is amazing value for money.

I think you will see quite a few videos of me using this guitar from now on.

Hopefully I will have the health and ability to enjoy playing them for many years to come.
Whether you are a new subscriber or have been listening to me for years, I hope you will continue to enjoy my music and get pleasure from my channel.
Many, many thanks for making my channel such a success.
