What happens when an American, a Dane, and a Welsh writer meet up at an Italian restaurant in Sweden? We challenge each other with writing questions, of course! Check out the videos on Joe Webb's channel to see how we fared.
While I was in beautiful Sweden, I attended the Stockholm Writers Festival, which included sessions on writing unlikeable protagonists, engaging agents with your first pages, and plotting like a pro. The festival inspired me to re-outline my current novel, and I took away several lessons I can't wait to share in future podcast episodes and videos.
More soon! In the meantime, keep writing. ā¤ļø

I've disappeared for a bit, but I have good excuses! Some of what I've been doing:
+ Talking about storytelling and content creation with my friend Dillan on his podcastātake a listen to Doin' The Thing: open.spotify.com/episode/4mrd6HzSR5ffXt0rVNiXb2?siā¦
+ Working on a writing exercise video to go with my podcast episode about worldbuilding
+ Writing the outline for WISH KILLER, the third installment in a fantasy trilogy with Story Garden Publishing
+ Editing amazing short fiction for Consequence; our next submission period runs from July 15āOctober 15 and is themed around the human consequences of war and geopolitical violence
+ Attending tons of book festivals with Story Garden, including hosting a fantasy worldbuilding workshop and a book club
+ Celebrating being listed as a finalist for a poetry fellowship! (And also dancing my way through several rejections)
What have you been working on lately?

For the third episode of the Quotidian Writer podcast, Iām looking for your questions about WORLD-BUILDING! This could be related to fantasy or science fiction but also contemporary or historical novels that involve a made-up setting. Whatās on your mind?

For episode two of the Quotidian Writer podcast, share your questions about characterization! What are you struggling with when it comes to making your characters come to life on the page?
The questions could involve protagonists, antagonists, minor characters, character arcs, and whatever else you can imagine. I'll pick five or six to answer as succinctly as I can in my March episode. Thanks for listening! :)

A Quotidian Writer podcast?! Head over to my YouTube podcast tab, Spotify, and elsewhere to listen to the first episode! It has a simple Q&A format, where I answer listenersā questions about their various writing woes. Consider it a āDear Dianeā advice column, with each episode covering a handful of questions across fifteen minutes.
Check this space soon for my open call for YOU to submit a question for consideration in the next episode, which will be themed around Characterization!
I will gradually rerelease audio versions of my videos on the podcast, but they wonāt be posted chronologically. Iāll be completely rerecording the audio for a number of my earlier videos, which were recorded with an Apple headphone micā¦
Iām aiming to post a new podcast once per month. My videos will continue to be infrequent because they take so long to produce, but Iām hoping to at least publish my trilogy of videos on writing short stories this year.
Fittingly, the podcast theme song is Vindsveptās āClockwork, part 2,ā a variation on the intro/outro of my videos, āClockwork.ā If you love fantasy music, please subscribe to Vindsveptās channel! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLOVp...

Proof that I'm not dead: here's a recent interview I did with Consequence, a literary magazine centered on the consequences of war and geopolitical violence. I'm the magazine's current Fiction Editor, and we're considering short stories, flash fiction, poetry, nonfiction, translations, and visual art until October 15! Free to submit, and we pay writers and artists.

New video coming soon! In the meantime, you can listen to this interview where I vent my frustrations about trying to find time to make videos (and write!) now that I have a full-time job. Dillan Taylor of The YouTuberās Guide to the Galaxy was a wonderful host, and I highly recommend his podcast if you're looking to become a content creator. š

Happy release week to The Tale of the Hidden Village by my friends K.C. Norton and Riley Rookhouse over at Story Garden Publishing! Isn't this just a stunning cover?! š As a fantasy mystery novel, it's like Sherlock in a Tolkien-esque world. If you have the means, please support these indie authors by buying an ebook or print copy! It would mean the world to me. ā¤ļø

Get a sneak preview of my upcoming video by attending my live presentation for Fantasy Writers' Week about "How to Write Curio Fiction: Showcasing the Fantastic in Our World." Never heard of "curio fiction"? Tune in February 27 to find out what it is and create your own curio concept!
Fantasy authors Travis Baldree and Rebecca F. Kuang will also be speaking at this (free!) four-day virtual conference. I'm not paid to present or promote; I just do this for fun. š
