We had another emotionally crushing night last night. Our other old girl, Lily, crossed the rainbow bridge. Her health has been slowly declining for a while due to chronic kidney disease, but she took a sharp turn a few days ago. We had to make the tragic decision to end her suffering, only 6 weeks after having to say goodbye to her sister. Lily was almost 20 years old and was the happiest, weirdest, and most loving cat ever.
Due to this sudden tragedy, we have to make a tough decision about attending SEGE:
We are going to split the party for the first time ever; I will be traveling to SEGE, and Elisa will be staying home.
This was not an easy decision to make. We really don't do any of this apart. Elisa has had Lily for almost 20 years, and Setzer (our last, much younger cat) is now suddenly alone. We have obligations and promises for attending SEGE, but it will be nearly impossible for Elisa to enjoy that trip right now. Elisa's brother, Leif, is flying out to spend the week with Elisa while I'm in South Carolina. Oh, it's also Elisa's birthday on the 7th...
Tragedy never comes at a good time.

Looking back to 2015 when Elisa and I hiked up to the top of mount Arashiyama at the monkey park! How time flies...This was our honeymoon trip, and in October 2025 it will be our 10 year anniversary! We are hoping to be able to go back to Japan again next year, we will see!

Last night was very hard for us. Hermie, Elisa's 20-year old cat that she has had since she was a teenager, crossed the rainbow bridge. She was at the emergency vet because she was not doing well, and took a sudden turn for the worse at around 2am. We were able to get there in time to say our goodbyes before she passed. The hole she leaves in our hearts is massive, and our two other cats feel it as well. This pain is going to take a long while to heal.
