If you asked me two years ago how I felt about content creation, these words would come to mind:

1. Exhausting

2. Transactional

3. Trapped

Trapped by expectations, my niche, and the pressure to produce constantly.

I had turned my passion into a never-ending cycle of content churn, which was taking a toll.

I was also building many transactional relationships, not necessarily genuine ones.

Today, my relationship with content creation looks very different.

In my latest video, I reveal why I quit building just a social media account and started focusing on something deeper: a personal brand.

I discuss why sticking to one topic might be sabotaging your growth and how shifting the focus to YOU as a person could future-proof your creator career.

I'll share my lessons, specific brand-building content examples, and how I'm building a community I genuinely love.

If you're ready to add the next layer to your content game and create a brand that's longer lasting beyond a "niche", then watch the full video here: https://youtu.be/71oNb0HPf5E

If you had asked me two years ago what the secrets to content creation were, I would have given you a list of tactics.

The truth is that tactics can help you grow, but they wonā€™t necessarily make you happy.

And if youā€™re not happy, your longevity as a creator will inevitably have an expiry date.

For example, even though I had built a large platform, I still had burnout and had to hit a significant reset button.

The same goes for the many prominent creators who quit YouTube, TikTok, or a ________ platform despite their on-paper success.

This week, Iā€™m sharing the 10 things I wish I had known about being a creator BEFORE I burned down my seven-figure creator business.

I hope sharing these lessons will save others from burning out and being unhappy in their creation journey.

For many of us, when weā€™re young or starting something new, weā€™re all extrinsically motivated by something.

Whether thatā€™s getting a fancy new job, finding a life partner, getting a certain amount of followers, buying a house, or wanting to become a millionaire.

But what happens when you achieve it?

You could either:

A) Set even more ā€œstick and carrotā€ goals, which will leave you in a perpetual hamster wheel of ā€œmoreā€, or

B) Look inward to define the internal motivators that will allow you to feel fulfilled by doing the activity itself.

After a few months of returning from my year-long sabbatical, I was surprised to feel unmotivated again.

ā€œHow could this be possible!? I donā€™t have a team, I donā€™t have clients, and I have all the time in the world.ā€

In fact, I found that finding motivation was even harder than when I started my business five years ago.

In a quest to answer this question, I started to research more about motivation.

Hereā€™s what I found:

If you feel disconnected, disengaged, and uninspired, you likely lack in one or all five of these areas:

1. Autonomy: Do you feel in control of actions and decisions?

2. Mastery: Do you feel enough healthy challenge towards personal improvement?

3. Purpose: Do your actions align with a larger meaning or goal?

4. Curiosity: Do you have an insatiable itch to learn more about your work?

5. Autotelicity: Do you love the activities you do while working?

In this week's video, I walk through an entire life audit I did that helped me get my mojo, purpose, and drive BACK!

I think most people think I'm an extrovert, but in reality, I'm actually quite shy.

In fact, during my year-long sabbatical, I became even more of an introvert.

Since coming back, I've avoided attending networking events as a way to protect myself.

But then here's what my therapist told me:

Even though avoidance gives us temporary relief, avoiding things only causes us to fear the problem even more, and we never develop the skills to overcome it in the long term.

Not only this, our anxieties around the problem become worse and worse, and what we fear most typically ends up becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

After learning this, I then decided to fight my fear and say YES to going to my first event of the year: Sony's Camera Camp.

In this week's video, I talk about the event and the things I did to overcome my social anxiety.

When I came back to social media after taking a whole year off and scaling back my business, I had this vision:

1. I earn a meaningful living just by being myself.

2. I am celebrated for who I am.

3. Iā€™m not performing. So, creation and work feel easy.

Sounds simple.

Just be yourself! Authenticity rules!

But here's what I learned in the last five months since returning from my sabbatical, attempting to execute this deceptively simple vision:

1. Being yourself is hard when you're unsure of who you are without the titles, niches, and other labels.

2. Being ā€˜youā€™ naturally means being unique. No one else will be exactly like you, so you won't have a roadmap to follow.

3. Authenticity can mean sharing things that may feel vulnerable or incomplete. Some things hit so close home that our need to protect ourselves overpowers our desire to share our work, making us inconsistent.

As you can see, the ā€œstrategyā€ of being yourself is easy to preach but hard to master.

You must get yourself to a level where you feel safe enough to be seen as you are.

You must also get to a place where you have a solid understanding of even who you are.

That's why in this week's video, I discuss a few things I did to help me increase my sense of self-worth, how I regained some of my confidence, a snippet of a coaching call I had with a mentor, and so much more.

Hey fam! I'm editing my upcoming video and I want to know if you guys like seeing captions already embedded in the video or not? (See pics as an example)

The video will be ~25 minutes long and consist of just straight real talk (no crazy edits).

I don't mind watching videos that have them because they keep me engaged, especially when they're straight-talking heads.

But I want to hear from you! What do you guys think?

TBH, I'm tempted to test it out anyway just to see how it affects average view duration and retention.

But I'm afraid of pissing yall off HAHA so LMK your thoughts in the comments and make sure to vote!

Lately, I've been overwhelmed by the idea of making short-form content.

I often tell myself that I'm not good at it and I frequently compare myself to other creators.

That's why, in this video, I fight my overwhelm and vlog my process of figuring out how to make repurposed videos, talking heads, and text-based videos.

The results completely surprised me because I made 26 videos in just two days!

Watch this video to get the entire A-Z on how I achieved this (and get a glimpse of a day in my life!):

Last week, I canceled $200,000 worth of brand sponsorships.

This video walks through the decision-making process and its leading-up to it, including the lessons I learned from my own mentors, and the resources that helped guide me through it.

My goal in sharing this video is to give you more insight into the reality of brand sponsorships and how hard "being authentic" can be.

This was an expensive and risky decision.

At the same time, it's given me a lot more peace as I navigate this journey of self-discovery.
