‘Seeds’ is out everywhere! yokelore.ffm.to/seeds I wrote this song for @kellyoxford new film Pink Skies Ahead ( @pinkskiesaheadmovie ) which premiers on MTV this Saturday night at 9pm est. and streaming on @hulu after that. Kelly made an incredible film about personal discovery and mental health and family and she asked me to write a song for the ending. I wrote a love song to the main character Winona about loving someone who is struggling to love themselves. I hope you like the song and I hope you go watch this movie. It is an important story for us all to be a part of. Thank you Kelly for allowing me to contribute to such a vibrant narrative and for trusting me with this work of art. Happy 5 years to this song and its EP ‘Far Shore’. This EP was my first foray in my own music. My own instincts and my own explorations. Those four songs formed a bedrock from which I am still growing. ‘Safety’ is a song about love in the face of self doubt. I think putting my doubts down in song helped me to avoid them in real life. I hope it does the same for you. I re-recorded this version of the song with Arthur Bensa, paired it down with smaller sounds and set it within a much smaller world because I wanted to know this song again. I wanted to re-articulate it for myself. To remind myself that I deserve safety. I hope it reminds you of that too. If you’ve been here since the first version. Thank you for everything. And if you’re just getting here, welcome! Hey everyone. In 2016 Mike Clemenza at Blahblahblahscience gave me an opportunity to make an EP under a new name after my previous project had gone caput. I went up to Stone Studio and made 4 songs with Ariel Loh that became Far Shore. Heavy Love, Hold me down, Safety, and Snowday were my first words to the world. These songs mean a lot to me. Today I get to re-release them on my own label. It means a lot for artists to own the means of our production (thanks Marx) So I recorded a stripped version of ‘Safety’ for you, modified and ‘undressed’, it will come out as a single soon! I also put on the original garage band demo of ‘heavy love’ that I recorded in my bedroom on Dekalb Avenue in Brooklyn that previous summer. I put some more goodies in the vinyl too! An art print, a tattoo, I wrote out all the lyrics, and Im including the amazing Gilligan Moss remix for ‘Hold me Down’. Thank you to all who have been here since the beginning. And thank you to everyone who has just gotten here. I can’t do it without you.
