It’s been a little over a month since the WCT6 World Championship and we’ve been busy in the edit, creating 14x 1hr episodes which will be broadcast in the 35 countries later this year. The WCT6 season has been by far our biggest yet, with three National Qualifiers (the USA, China and France Championships), one Continental Qualifier (the Pan-American Championship) and the WCT6 World Championship. In the 3 years (almost to the day) since the previous World Championship (WCT5) a lot has changed in the World of Chase Tag.
- The live audiences at WCT events have grown significantly and the attendance on the final day of WCT6 was almost five times bigger (1,700) than what it was at WCT5 (350), with almost 5,000 spectators over the three days.
- At the time of WCT5, there were less than a handful of Quads in existence while there are now over 25 - in the USA, China, Sweden, Japan, France, and Brazil, among others (but still no permanent Quads in the UK!!). Each new Quad builds a new community of athletes and teams so it’s amazing to see things grow so quickly and it looks like things will continue in that direction in the coming months.
- We had our first Women’s exhibition match at WCT5 and throughout the WCT6 season the Women’s league has grown to crazy heights and it’s amazing how many storylines, rivalries, upsets and redemptions there have been in only one season!!
Like the Women’s Division, another thing we want to develop over the next couple years is the Youth Division (WCT Academy). There are a lot of youth teams forming in Europe, the Middle East and America and we’ve already had WCT youth competitions in China and Japan, so we’re very excited to see how this grows.
WCT6 took place in Evry-Courcouronnes, the birthplace of Parkour, and the event would not have been possible without the support of Grand Paris Sud and Ville d’Évry Courcouronnes. Not only did they provide the amazing venue, Les Arènas, but they also built the world’s first official outdoor 12m Quad, open for public use 24hrs a day (so we’re fully expecting to see a lot of strong teams coming out of the city at future events - Fakaw, The Crow - we’re ready for you!!).
It takes a huge community of people to grow the sport so, as always, our eternal thanks to all the athletes that work so hard to unfailingly raise the bar at each event; the WCT license holders that invest their time and resources into growing local WCT communities, putting on events and nurturing the future stars of the sport; the countless people that work behind the scenes to do the countless tasks that need doing; and the fans that come to events and watch, share, like and comment on our videos.
We can’t wait to get the WCT7 season underway, but in the meantime, there are a lot of local events in the coming months so keep an eye on www.worldchasetag.com/events for more info. We’ll be announcing the Open Division Knight of Flight and the inaugural the Women’s Division Knight of Flight shortly, followed by the WCT6 Best Chase Competition. Until then, as always - Keep Chasing and Don’t get Caught!!!
